About

Open Streets Calgary (OSC) began in 2012. It derives its name from the dozens of other Open Streets initiatives popping up across North America.

Open Streets Events advocates:

  • Awareness for pedestrian, cycling, and other alternative transportation options.
  • Participatory urban art, innovative fitness, and emerging cultural experiences that encourage a re-imagining of how public spaces such as streets are regarded and used.
  • Expanded dialogue around our energy use.

Open Streets Events brings a collaboration of cycling, arts, and community groups to Calgary's biggest festivals and other events to engage a broad audience in these themes. Simultaneously, Open Streets Events is strengthening the reach and impact of its collaborator groups by promoting their initiatives and advocacy campaigns.

Our bicycle power generators are used for public education and to animate events.

We can take your event off the grid with our green bike-powered energy.

We aim to contribute to a vibrant culture of sustainability in Calgary through our promotion of:

  • Awareness for pedestrian, cycling, and other alternative transportation options.
  • The re-imagining of Public spaces as participatory public spaces.
  • Expanded dialogue around Calgary's energy use, through animation, and education to advocate conservation, accessibility and the transition to a low carbon economy.
  • Our pedal generators as models of green power that aid energy education, and power events off the grid.
  • Aligned groups by promoting their initiatives and advocacy campaigns.
